The Sports Commission Keeps Their Eye on the Ball with the Help of NMBL Strategies

This spring, NMBL Strategies’ leadership team challenged themselves to think of a strategic, meaningful way to give back and support their community.  They wanted to dive in and help nonprofits who were being particularly negatively impacted by a growing pandemic.   With that, a contest was born to award deserving nonprofits complimentary, outsourced leadership services from NMBL’s Managing Director of Nonprofit Services, Dion Brown.  Headquartered in St. Louis, MO, NMBL Strategies knows nothing can bring people together like sports, and as such, the St. Louis Sports Commission was one of the nonprofits selected to benefit from the savvy of Brown.

About the Sports Commission

The St. Louis Sports Commission is an independent, privately-funded nonprofit organization that makes St. Louis a better place to live, visit, work and play through sports.  It has been recognized nationally as the sports commission of the year three times.  Probably best known for attracting events like NCAA championships (basketball, wrestling, hockey, and more), the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, and Olympic Trials, as well as helping to bring the PGA Championship and NHL All-Star Game to St. Louis, the St. Louis Sports Commission plays a vital role in its community.

As the host of the Musial Awards, the Sports Commission is honored to be part of what many consider one of the most inspiring nights in sports; broadcast annually by CBS across the country.  The Sports Commission is also proud to run the St. Louis Sports Foundation, which is focused on promoting sportsmanship and creating positive environments for kids to play sports so they stay active and lead healthier, happier lives.  The organization stays rooted in its mission to attract, create and manage major sporting events for the St. Louis area.

NMBL Strategies’ Role

When NMBL Strategies selected the St. Louis Sports Commission as one of their contest winners, their Managing Director of Nonprofit Services, Dion Brown, was glad to share some of his best practices for adopting culturally responsive strategies and navigating challenging situations.  During this time of the pandemic, he is focused on Nonprofit Strategy for the Sports Commission as they work through issues like revenues that have been minimized because the events they produce have been postponed or canceled.  NMBL is analyzing current revenue streams and providing a mixture of optimization of the current streams, as well as working to produce new ones.  As many nonprofits face similar challenges to the Sports Commission, NMBL Strategies is proud to offer consultants likes Brown, who have real-world experience and have lived through the roles they provide.  As the world navigates a reopening process, NMBL Strategies is helping the St. Louis Sports Commission get back in the game.
